Shedd Aquarium in the lakeshore museum campus of Chicago is one
of the world's oldest public aquariums. The building dates from
1929 and with extensive renovations and expansion in the 1990s is
one also one of the largest in the USA.
The wide range of exhibits at the Shedd Aquarium introduce the visitor
to aquatic life from around the world. Special exhibits include;
Caribbean Coral Reefs, Amazon Rivers, the Pacific Northwest and
a more locally focused Illinois Lakes and Rivers.
In the new extension to the Shedd Aquarium, the Oceanarium features
ocean mammals, fish and sea birds. The popular exhibits here include;
Seahorse Symphony, Beluga Whales, Pacific White-sided Dolphins,
Alaska Sea Otters and Gentoo Penguins.
