Chicago Museum of Science and Industry
Opened in 1933, the Museum of Science and Industry is the oldest of its kind in the western hemisphere and attracts around two million visitors each year. It was the first museum in North America to develop the 'hands-on' approach with interactive exhibits and currently has more than 2000 interactive and 800 regular exhibits, containing around 50,000 artifacts.

Highlights of the museum collection include Apollo 8, the first manned craft to orbit the moon, the Aurora 7 Mercury spacecraft, a WWII captured German submarine listed in the National Register of Historic Places, a WWII British Spitfire Fighter Plane, one of a surviving few that flew in the Battle of Britain, a 3000-square foot (280-square meter) model railroad, one of the world's largest, a 20-foot (six-meter) tall walk-through model of a human heart and veteran cars dating from the early 1900s.

The Museum of Science and Industry is free on Mondays and Tuesdays. For details of opening times, special exhibitions and events, visit the Museum of Science and Industry official website.
