Chicago Cultural Center
|
Opened in 1897 as the city's first permanent public library, the
palatial Chicago Cultural Center is a magnificent building of beaux-arts
style marbles, mosaics and stained glass.
The library relocated in 1991 and the 'people's palace', as the
center is known, now houses the Michigan Avenue Galleries, Landmark
Chicago Gallery, Sidney R Yates Gallery, Grand Army of the Republic
Exhibit, Claudia Cassidy Theater and the Preston Bradley Hall.
The Chicago Office of Tourism's Visitor Information Center is on
the first floor and offers information and literature on Chicago's
many varied attractions. Recently cleaned and restored, the Chicago
Cultural Center was America's first free municipal cultural center
and is truly an "architectural showplace for the lively and visual
arts".

Cultural Center web
